Michael is a Michigan native, with generational ties to West Michigan. Part of his youth was spent as an “Air Force Brat” living near bases in Florida, Texas, and California. After operating a farm in rural Arkansas for a time, Michael’s family returned to Michigan and operated family-owned businesses. Michael was active in his school and community, playing varsity sports, volunteering, and spending three months in Haiti as a missionary. Michael received a National Merit Scholarship, and attended Florida State University, majoring in Business Administration.
Michael served in the United States Air Force, spending time at multiple bases in Texas and four years at the United States Air Force Academy, supporting the development of future military officers. While enlisted, Michael continued his education, receiving degrees in psychology from University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and Western Michigan University.
Michael went on to study law at Michigan State University, graduating Cum Laude. Michael worked with the Michigan State University Small Business and Nonprofit Law Center, helping entrepreneurs develop business plans, pursue financing, draft necessary documents, review and draft contracts, draft and negotiate employment and contractor agreements, and assisting groups seeking to establish or further develop non-profit organizations.
Michael has expertise in estate planning, wills, trust formation and administration, family law, divorce, child custody and child support matters, business formation and development, real estate law, consumer bankruptcy, and civil litigation. Michael has also done extensive business consulting, especially in the medical field, construction trades, and property development spaces, and has been the CEO of a multistate healthcare organization.
Michael and his wife Jennifer spend time traveling, exploring, and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities, like camping, hiking, snowboarding, paddleboarding, and kayaking, and have a passion for assisting with animal rescues.
